My Nuvi650 (bought-2007/not updated maps/but updated Firmware).Once i enter destination(for ex:walmart),it simply gives a once step direction such as 'Northwest to Walmart').It does not give any detailed route.Interestingly, when i try view the map,it simply shows a line from my home to Walmart ignoring the actual route. The problem is,it recognizes the Destination, but doesn't provide the detailed route. Can someone pls advise what needs to be done? Does Map Update help ?

Yes, this is an easy problem to fix. At the main menu, press the wrench symbol, then the Navigation icon and you will find that your unit is set to "Off Road" in the Route Preference. Press "Off Road" and select either "Fastest Time" (preferred) or "Shortest Distance".

Off road is like using your GPS as a compass. There are no roads, hence the name "Off Road".

Faster time selects highways, while shorter distance, selects back roads.

I have a Nuvi 650. Touchscreen just went dead. Battery is only good for 5-10 minutes on full charge. I don't want a new one -Lifetime maps and I simply like my 650's Op system better than the new ones out.

When do you think your repair schedule will open up again?

Thanks!

I also have a Nuvi 650 that I just bought the lifetime maps for. My touch screen just died completely, can't even be calibrated, and the battery is not holding a charge for very long. Sounds like a common problem. From your website, it seems as though I should also consider having my on/off switch changed as well. Is that true for this model Garmin? Can I get a quote? And, in help deciding what to do, will Garmin allow me to change my maps from one Nuvi 650 to another? My husband has one that has not had the maps updated, and is not broken. Thanks!!

Hi Lisa, Yes, touchscreen failure is a common problem.

If you have lifetime maps for your Nuvi, the factory should still honor that but you will need to have your unit repaired first.

The factory no longer supports the Nuvi 650 as far as repairs but we do.

I don't know about transferring maps from one owner to another. You would have to contact the factory about that.

We'll send you info on how to obtain a quote from us.

I have the exact same touchscreen issue on my wife's Nuvi 650. She really likes her 650 and didn't want a new one, so I added lifetime maps only 3 months ago. I tried the "request quote" link on sharc.net but get an error that page is not found. Can I get a repair quote please?

Hello, I have a nuvi 650. I just started giving me problems. I have recalibrated and doing some research it seems that I probably have a drifting screen. I tried clicking on "request a quote". can you please send me a repair quote?
