We realize just how important your GPS is to you and we make every effort to receive, diagnose and repair your GPS in a timely manner.

There is typically a 1 week turnaround time from the time that we receive your GPS to the time it is shipped back to you. However, depending upon our backlog, this can cause the turnaround time to extend out a few days. We mention this to all of our customers in our quotes.

We ask our customers not to ask for status updates because all that does is slow down the entire repair process.... for EVERYONE.

When our schedule is full, our quote request page will be disabled. It doesn't make much sense to keep taking in units only for them to sit on the repair shelf, while our phone rings and our email chimes with customers asking about the status of their repair. With our quote page disabled, it gives the customer the freedom to find an alternative repair facility.

Despite our quote page being disabled (actually indicating that our schedule is full), we still receive emails mentioning that our quote page shows us as having a full schedule and how can they bypass all of that and send in their GPS anyway for repair. The answer is quite simple. They can't.

We also inform our customers that we are closed on Saturday and Sunday, as well as all major US national holidays. So if a customer sends a unit to us and it arrives on a Wednesday afternoon and there is a holiday on the following Monday, please don't email us on the following Wednesday saying we've been working on your GPS for a week and you want a status update. No, we haven't been working on it a week. Only (4) "business" days have passed.

Here is a definition of "business week" taken from the Internet: "A business day is considered every official working day of the week. Another common term is working day. Typically, these are the days between and including Monday to Friday and do not include public holidays and weekends."

Some repairs are very tedious & delicate to perform. We want to take the time to perform the repair "right", "the first time".

It is very difficult to do this with the constant "Are we there yet?".

If a customer is in a hurry, we do offer an expedite service for an additional fee.

We do however, occasionally have a customer who persists in asking for a repair update. Unfortunately we may decide to stop working on the unit and send it back to the customer unrepaired. It isn't fair to our other patient customers to stop working on their GPS's to give updates to others.

We ask for your patience and appreciate your business. Thank you!

The link isn't broken. It's been disabled. What make and model of GPS do you have and the problem that you are having with it?

I finally see that the RFQ on the website has been disabled. I have a Garmin 2460 that needs a battery.

With the prices of GPS's dropping, we find that owners don't want to pay the shipping costs and battery replacement cost. We make very little profit on a battery replacement, especially when combined with some other repair, as we've already opened the unit for repair. You will save $ if you replace it yourself. Here is a link to a suitable replacement battery for your Nuvi 2460.

I'm a bit surprised at this especially with your statements about the advice against self repair here. I guess I will either buy the $10 battery and get some better case tools than I have now or spend $400 on a new GPS.

Hi, it looks like with Request a Quote disabled, I should ask for help here. We have a Navi 1490 that may have the loose mini-USB problem. The unit does work, but while we drive with it plugged in, it randomly reboots. If we use it unplugged, it runs steady as long as the battery holds out.

What do you think?

Your symptoms sound like a typical usb problem. We suggest contacting the factory as they are well aware of this problem. They may give you credit toward a new GPS. As prices of GPS's drop, we're finding people ask for quotes then try to negotiate our prices. We have techs that we have to pay for their time. It isn't fair to them to ask them to do the same work as before for less money. Especially for repairs where we fix the problem permanently so it won't happen again.

Thanks for the quick response. Your price list shows a repair for this problem at $35 — is that still being offered?

Yes we do. Is there any physical damage to the USB connector? In addition to repairing or replacing the connector, we modify the board to allow more surface area to solder the mounting tabs of the USB connector. We also add a bonding material over the mounting tabs and electrical connections to add additional strength to the connector. Finally, we recommend that the user secure the charging cable to the mount so that the weight of the charging cable isn't pulling on the connector.

I used a zip tie to secure the charging cable to the cradle, and it did help, but didn’t eliminate the problem. On 3 trips between home and the office (~22 miles), it didn’t reboot at all the first time, rebooted once on the next trip, and 3 times on the third. Without the zip tie, it would have been 3-5 times each trip.

I don’t see any obvious damage to the USB connector, so between that and the improvement I saw from the zip tie, I think solidifying the internal mounting like you do may set us straight.

I have a question regarding a Tomtom, however since that section of the Board is not accepting any postings I an trying here since there seems to be a live person on the other end. I apologize if I am out of order by posting here.
I have a 4.3” Tomtom (separate unit) that is the removable part of an Eclipes AVN4430 (actually a Subaru accessory) that needs it’s touch screen replaced. Even though it is a removable part of the Eclipse ANV4430, the front of the Tomtom is like any other 4.3” Tomtom. Subaru wants about $700 to replace just the Tomtom. Can your firm replace the touch screen on this unit. There are touch screen replacements for this specific unit in the UK, but only for UK residences. Also eBay has touch screens for sale for this unit also, however I wouldn’t tackle a replacement myself.
Again I apologize for infringing on the Garmin section of the board with a Tomtom question.

Rkwilcox, your question has been copied over to the TomTom forum. That forum is restricted to registered users like yourself. We had to place a restriction on that forum because it was being spammed with posts pertaining to the sale of drugs which is prohibited on ALL of our forums. You should have been able to post there.

Sorry but we only carry parts for the Nuvi series. The Drive smart model is not on our websites published list of models that we work on. We would not carry parts on that model.

Is it possible to get an idea when you will be taking repair orders again. I've checked a couple of times a day for several days. I have a Garmin 1450 with a bad usb connector.

Thank you.

I've been checking to see if the repair quote has been enabled for awhile (over a month). I noticed that there was no response to the January 6, 2018 inquiry. Are you getting close to being able to take on new repairs?
