When you say N650, do you mean Nuvi 650? When you say it dies, do you mean it powers off? Does it do this only on battery power or also when connected to an external charger? Is it powering down after it says "Loading Maps"? | ||

Nuvi650. On battery power: goes to 'load maps'>'Map Update Notice'> then it powers off, screen goes dark. On AC external: goes to 'load maps'> 'mapupdate notice'> but can't press 'OK' to continue. touch screen inop. | ||

Ok, on battery power, it sounds like it is dying due to the battery not being fully charged or defective. The second problem is a result of a defective touchscreen. It is preventing you from pressing OK to get past the map update screen. With the unit on the charger, you can let it boot to the map update screen and then lightly press the power button and see if it goes into charge mode. If so, leave it like that for a few hours and it should not die on you right away, unless the battery is defective. If the battery hasn't been replaced in the last 2 years, it is probably overdue. |
