If your Nuvi has suddenly quit speaking street names and now only says "Turn Left" or Turn Right", please follow the following procedure to restore your Nuvi so that it will begin speaking street names again:

Press the wrench/tools button at the main menu. Select the icon with the lips (language/locale).

You should see (2) buttons labeled American English. The first one makes all of the text on the Nuvi in the English alphabet. The second button is for the voice. If it just says "American English", then it will only say "Turn Left" or "Turn Right". Press this button and select a TTS voice (Text to Speech), like Jill, Jack, Daniel.....etc. That will give you back your street names. :-)

Duh-------
Why do they make it hard to find... GPS job is to make things EASY to find.
Thanks.. spend 7 days traveling without that handy feature!

I'm more curious as to why the setting changes after it's been previously set. Sounds like some memory locations are being corrupted.

Worked for my NUVI 260. The question is why it happened and will it happen again? Some possibilities:
1) Program Update via web updater

2) Installing too many languages. I have them all installed which is rediculous. Seems like all prevents some from installing

3) Inadvertent Change to setup that I don't remember but I didn't realize that a non-TTS would disable this feature.

for sure! I was desperate after my hubby missed numerous turns over the weekend because the thing no longer speaks. He turned the volume down because my kids were asleep in the car. Then it stopped speaking all together!!!!. Thanks so much!!!!

Thanks so much. Can't wait to try it. It's so frustrating when you know you had the voice saying the street names previously.
